French Toast – Indian version recipe

French toast is always handy when you want to make quick breakfast with added punch. Somehow I don’t like the sweet version and being a south indian – I always liked savory over sweet 🙂 ;). Here is the quick and easy French toast you can make it in a go

Ingredient needed:

  1. Bread (whole wheat/ Sandwich bread) – 4 slices
  2. water – 1/4 cup
  3. Egg – 1 large (well beaten)
  4. Salt – as per taste
  5. Red chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste
  6. Roasted cumin powder – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste
  7. Garam masala – 1/4 tea-spoon

If you like – you can grounded pepper, chopped coriander leaves to the mixture .

How to prepare :

In a large shallow bowl – mix all the above ingredients. Soak bread slices one by one until all the sides of bread are fully covered with the mixture . Heat tawa, add ghee or oil and toast them until egg is cooked full. Now serve with your favorite ketchup or homemade salsa (recipe coming soon 🙂 )

Easy one pot healthy lunch using rice

Ah I have always been looking ways to minimize the usage of vessels for cooking , so that i won’t end up in washing them later 😀 😀 .This meal is very easy to make and it’s basic, so you can never go wrong  :). All you need are

  1. Pressure cooker
  2. Rice
  3. Toor dal (one we will use for sambar)

Rest of the ingredients are what you had . Use your own veggie mixture , you can omit veggies as well

Vegetables needed

All the veggies are optional, add or remove based on your taste and availability

  • Onion
  • Tomato
  • Carrot
  • Beans
  • Cabbage
  • Green peas
  • Beetroot
  • Drumstick
  • Sweet potato
  • Potato

Items needed for saute :

  1. Oil or ghee – 1 teaspoon
  2. Green chilli -2
  3. Cumin seeds – 1 tea-spoon
  4. Ginger grated – 1/2 tea-spoon
  5. Curry leaves – 1 sprig

How to prepare :

Wash and soak 1 cup or rice and 1/2 cup of toor dal in 3 cups of water for 20 mins in pressure cooker. Add your vegetables cut into pieces of your desired size. Add oil, cumin seeds, ginger, chilli. Add salt as desired. Pressure cook for 7 minutes or wait for 3 whistles. Let it cool . Add curry leaves , coriander  and a teaspoon of ghee (optional).

Tada 🙂 you one pot meal is ready . It’s healthy, easy and quick . You can eat it any time in a day

Himalaya anti hair fall hair oil review

I have been experiencing hair fall lately because of the salt water in Chennai  especially in the area I live . Even you taste the salt when you take bath 😦 . I have been in constant hunt for a good hair oil, that will save my hair to stick to the scalp 😦  .

To save my last strands of hair, I have picked up this for 2 reasons 1) It’s from an herbal brand 2)I fell for the claims I have seen this pack 😉 .You can get it online from amazon .I got this oil 2 months back and I have been using this as overnight oil treatment . I alternate between coconut oil and Himalaya oil . Although it’s not so great ,I’d say it worked and I’m happy with my purchase 🙂

My experience:

I have been using this oil for 2 months, twice in a week . In the first 3 weeks I didn’t notice any improvement, post that my hair fall has been  reduced a bit . I am able to visibly notice texture improvement in my hair . It works 😀 given you have the time and patience. I always applied this oil overnight and i need to cover my pillow to prevent it staining my pillow case . But its okay, i can compromise for that for the product that works. One thing I hate about this is ” you need to wash your hair twice ” and you can’t do that in a hurry. Although the hair claims to be herbal , I don’t notice any herbal smell, it’s a strong smell which I couldn’t describe. Overall its a good product and helps in reducing hair fall ( but don’t expect a miracle :P)

My experience:

I love this face pack .As mentioned in the tube, I have applied thin layer and let it for 15 minutes . It didn’t make my skin stretchy and it gave decent moisturizing effect. You can skip moisturizer post this if you don’t have super dry skin. The best part is , this pack is suitable for all skin types and it didn’t break me out . The glow lasted for 4 -5 days 🙂 .Once you have applied it , please be indoors  and avoid scaring people around .You will look either scary or funny with the pack on 😀 😀  I wet my hands and gently scrub the pack off my face after 15 minutes and washed it . Removing the pack is pretty messy, You need to wash your sink post face wash  😦 . But its okay , you can deal with that for a good product like this. Overall I’m so happy , I picked this 🙂

Pros:

  1. Suitable for all skin types
  2. make your skin super clean
  3. Glow last for 4 days
  4. It doesn’t cause any breakouts
  5. It doesn’t irritate your skin

Quick and healthy Veg salad

Are you constantly looking for an alternative for eating junk food like chips ,candies for your evening hunger , here is a quick and healthy salad. You can make it with the vegetables available in  your hand . All you need is your creativity to flow to have a good salad dressing . You can do it in bulk and store in your fridge for 2 days and have it as part of dinner  or any time in a day where hunger attacks you ;)

Vegetables that will go good for salad

  1. Beans
  2. Carrots
  3. cauliflower
  4. Broccoli
  5. green peas
  6. capsicum
  7. Beetroot
  8. sweet potato
  9. Greens
  10. Corn kernels
  11. Baby corn

For flavors :

  1. Mint leaves
  2. Coriander leaves /cilantro
  3. Olives (pitted)

For salad dressing

  1. Black pepper
  2. Salt
  3. Lemon juice / Rice vinegar
  4. Hot sauce
  5. Tiny bit of sugar
  6. Olive oil

Wash and cut the veggies of your choice, steam them until tender. Put the veggies in a bowl and add your flavors and salad dressing of your choice. Leave the mixture for 10 minutes to marinate . That’s it :) your healthy salad is ready . You can make it in badges with your favorite dressing .

Quick Beetroot halwa

I have been looking for an alternate for carrot halwa (although its tasty, got bored  ). I wanted to try something different and this poor thing was at my fridge container for more than 3 days . Got an idea of making a fast and quick sweet and that’s how I ended up making Beetroot halwa

Ingredient needed:

  1. Beetroot – 3 to 4 grated thinly
  2. Sugar -1 cup
  3. water – as required
  4. Ghee – 2 tbsp
  5. cashew nuts – as desired
  6. Salt – a pinch

Preparation :

In a pan , pour 1 tbsp of ghee add grated beetroot and saute for 2 mins. Then add required water , salt and let it cook. Once the water has been evaporated and beetroot is cooked , add sugar and let it dissolve. In meantime , in a toasting pan – add 1 tbsp of ghee and roast the cashew until golden brown. Add cashew to beetroot and mix it until it comes to your desired consistency

Viola ! your quick sweet is ready to serve  🙂

 

Easy and healthy breakfast

In the morning rush  to office/school or college ,we forget to take care of our health . We often deny to give our body the most important meal of the day. Eating a healthy breakfast every day gives your brain and body a boost. Make time in the morning for breakfast. It really does make a difference. Here is a quick recipe that can be done in less than 5 minutes with ingredients at home

Ingredients :

  1. Poha or flattened rice – 1 cup
  2. Green chillies – 2
  3. Ginger – a small piece
  4. Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  5. Urad dal – 1 tea-spoon
  6. Bengal gram  1 tea-spoon
  7. Groundnut – 1 tea-spoon
  8. Mustard seeds – as desired
  9. Asafoetida – a pinch
  10. Turmeric powder – a pinch
  11. Salt – as needed
  12. oil
  13. Lime juice – 1 tea-spoon

How to prepare:

Wash the flattened rice, squeeze water out and keep in a bowl. Mix turmeric powder and salt with flattened rice. Keep aside. In a kadai/frying pan ,pour oil and season it mustard seeds and asafoetida. Add urad dal, bengal gram and groundnut , fry until it becomes golden brown. Add onion, ginger and chilli saute for 2 minutes. Then add flattened rice mixture. Saute for a minute. Turn off your stove and add lime juice.

Garnish with coriander and curry leaves . Tada !! – your breakfast is ready. You can also have this to curb your hunger in evening as a replacement for junk food

Deep conditioning hair mask treatment

1Ingredients needed :

  1. Coconut milk
  2. olive oil
  3. Coconut oil
  4. Yogurt/Curd

Hair mask types:

Mask 1 : Mix 1/3 rd of olive oil to 2/3 rd of coconut milk and apply this to scalp and hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes to 1 hour

Mask 2 : Mix equal parts of olive oil and coconut oil. Warm the mixture and apply on hair strands and scalp. You can leave it for overnight or keep that for 1 hour

Mask 3 : Mix 1 cup of yogurt with 2 or 3 teaspoon of olive oil. Apply the mixture and leave it for an hour

Shampoo and wash your hair as usual and air dry it . Quick tip: Apply the mask on already washed hair, may be after a day or 2 post your hair wash. Ah !  don’t worry about the mess these will make . No mess no gain 🙂

You can use only olive oil as a mask or coconut oil alone as a mask. Being a south Indian girl, I swear by coconut oil and it had done wonders to my skin and hair.
